Making the decision to study abroad can be extremely confronting. Not only do you need to search for the ‘perfect’ study option, but even after being accepted there is still such a long way to go.
Still, more than 200,000 International students have taken this journey and currently study in Melbourne. OutBeyond’s Pathway programs connects school students visiting from China, Japan and other interested countries with tertiary students studying at various Universities here such as Melbourne University
Our pathway mentoring program provides international school-aged students with a direct connection to the Australian education system under the guidance and mentorship of Tertiary aged international students, already studying in Melbourne. Hands-on and simulated experiential learning is used to develop a deeper understanding of the history, cultures and lifestyles of each other’s countries
This program prepares students by encompassing outdoor education, camping, experiential learning and educational travel into the multi-day study tour. Pathway gives students an exciting and thought-provoking experience, establishing life-long friendships and support networks for future study.
A key concern for international students is finding a job whilst studying in melbourne.
Its a competitive jobs market in melbourne and if you don't have something unique that sets you apart from others, then how do you expect to be on the radar of potential employers.
Stand out from the Crowd is an OutBeyond leadership and development program for post secondary international students studying in Melbourne and Regional Victoria.
A six week program for students who study at Victorian Universities and TAFEs. During the program participants undertake 3 stages of development:
1. Training and Mentoring
Induction program where students will receive training and coaching by experiential educators in preparation for placement.
Students take part in a training program where they are introduced to their roles and responsibilities, and mentored and coached in delivering and facilitating placement programs.
2. Placement
Students will be placed into the field under the guidance and supervision of experiential educators, where they will develop key life skills through delivering student tours, camps and leadership courses. Placement participants will develop leadership, communication, confidence and critical thinking skills.
The placement will run between 3 to 21 days depending on the student, their personal schedule and the goals that they set with the experiential educator during the training and mentoring stage. The placement will allow for participants to develop a wide range of employability skills through being given the responsibility to manage and lead groups of secondary school aged students from China. These students will be undertaking a OutBeyond Leadership and Development study tourism program that requires the professional facilitation and delivery of the leadership content. Participants will develop their communication, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, confidence and leadership skills, whilst making new friends.
3. Engagement
Participants will have developed key 21st century life skills through simulated leadership opportunities during their placement. Through ongoing coaching and mentoring, these students will be supported in achieving employment.
OB will conduct an award ceremony where students will receive their honorable achievement award. Its now time to put those skills into action and seek out new employment opportunities. Students will leverage new skills and networks.
What will students gain?
SOFTc gives students the opportunity to develop their leadership acumen, improve confidence, promote wellbeing and community engagement, and give students an edge that aims to increase employability.
